Staple Food Prices in Central Jakarta are Relatively Safe

The Central Jakarta Maritime and Agriculture Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) has monitored the prices of staple foods in 15 traditional markets spread across eight sub-districts.

Generally, prices of staple foods in traditional markets are still relatively stable

Based on monitoring results, prices of staple foods in each market are still relatively safe.

Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Penty Yunesi Pudyastuti said monitoring the prices of staple foods aims to maintain price stability while at the same time ensuring the availability of food stocks during Ramadan.

"There are seven commodities that experienced price hikes of up to three to five percent, such as big red chilies, cayenne peppers, green chilies, curly red chilies, eggs, broiler chicken, and beef," she expressed, Saturday (3/25).

There were 15 traditional markets inspected, namely Block III Senen, Baru Metro Atom, Tanah Abang Block G, Bendungan Hilir, and Gondangdia.

In such markets, the price of big red chilies, curly red chilies, and green cayenne peppers ranges from Rp 50,000/kg and cayenne pepper Rp 90,000/kg.

Meanwhile, commodity prices for broiler chickens are Rp 35,000/head, chicken eggs Rp 30,000/kg, and beef Rp 140,000/kg.

According her, the price hikes on these commodities were still fairly reasonable. However, monitoring of prices of staple foods in traditional markets continues during Ramadan.

"Generally, prices of staple foods in traditional markets are still relatively stable and stocks are also secure," she said.

She also urged residents not to panic by buying excess food stocks because price stability in the market remains under control.

"No need for panic buying. In essence, we are always monitoring," she finished.
